Flinders Park FC Red Alert - 1 November 2019
View this email in your browser
Despite the close of the football and winter netball seasons there has been quite a bit happening at the club in the past month! Soon after our last email we held our Presentation Ball at the picturesque Adelaide Oval, where some 185 attendees enjoyed a great night out celebrating the achievements of the past year – award winners and a link to photos from the night can be found in this email. A comprehensive process was undertaken to recruit our new senior football coach who is introduced below, and of course the summer netball and cricket seasons have now kicked off.

Some important dates to add to your calendars include the American Night, the AGM and also our Christmas Drinks that will officially wind up 2019 for the club. Further details on those events will be published closer to the dates. Plenty of information to go through below with our next update to be delivered to your inboxes in late November.

Keep your eye on the red, gold and blue via the Red Alert, our website, Facebook and Instagram.

Welcome Luke Ivens

The Flinders Park Football Club Inc. are thrilled to announce Luke Ivens as our A grade football coach for season 2020. Luke brings a wealth of experience to the role, playing 193 league matches for North Adelaide before moving to the strong Hills Football League Division 1 where he was a successful player and coach for Uraidla Districts over the past six years. A well respected leader and person on and off the field, Luke ticks all the boxes for us culturally and is the perfect fit for our young and talented playing group.

We welcome Luke, partner Sally and our newest supporter young Leo to the club, and invite all players and members to ‘Meet the Coach’ this Thursday 24 October from 6.30pm at the club. Further details to come.

“I just wanted to take this opportunity to express my excitement and eagerness to join the Flinders Park Football Club in 2020. Looking forward to meeting the community and the opportunities the upcoming season will bring.”
- Luke Ivens

Senior Football Preseason

Senior football preseason begins on Tuesday 12 November from 6pm at the club, and continues every Tuesday and Thursday night from 6pm onwards. The final training in 2019 will take place on Thursday 19 December, with the club Christmas function to follow that night. All existing and new players in all grades are expected to attend or contact Luke Ivens if you are unavailable.

Congratulations to 2019 Best and Fairest Daniel Blythe

A huge congratulations to club captain Daniel Blythe, who was recognised as our A grade Best and Fairest and awarded the 'Clive Brice Medal' at Friday night's Presentation Ball. Daniel becomes a two time winner of the award (first in 2016) and caps off a stellar season that included an outstanding 23 votes in the league medal - runner up by just one vote. He epitomises the Flinders Park culture, provides excellent leadership on and off the field, and is a great role model for our young and talented playing group. Daniel's family are great supporters of the club and it was our pleasure to have mother Gloria and grandmother Lorraine in attendance at the presentation also (pictured with coach David Kennewell). Well done and we hope to add a Premiership medal to the collection in 2020!

2019 Football and Netball Award Winners

Congratulations to all our award winners for season 2019!

Netball Update

Summer 2019/20
October sees the start of Summer Netball, and this season we have a new addition to the Netball Club – an Under 17s team (pictured below)! Coached by club mums Dee and Deb, this newly formed team is settling in nicely – with 3 wins from 3! We’re so happy to see the team having fun and to be expanding the Flinders Park community.

Winter 2020
The start of Summer season means Winter 2020 season planning is underway, and information will be available in the next month or so regarding player, coach, and volunteer expressions of interest. If you, or someone you know, are interested in playing, coaching, or assisting – please feel free to get in touch with us on email or Facebook.  At this time we will be fielding Women’s Open and U17’s aged teams in 2020.
Netball Committee – Expressions of Interest
We will soon be taking expressions of interest for club members interested in joining the Netball Committee. Information will be available on our Facebook page, however please get in contact with us if you would like to be notified by email.

Senior Cricket Report

The Cricket season is underway and with two rounds complete, both the A and B Grade have won and lost a game each.

Highlights for the A Grade included an outstanding bowling performance by Tom Cousins in Round 1 against Hope Valley, taking 6 wickets for only 17 runs. Best with the bat so far is Matt Overall, who scored 57 runs in Round 2 versus Fulham.

The B Grade completed a narrow win last week versus Payneham, with some lower order heroics by Dylan Tanner who scored 36 runs to help the team get over the line. Best with the ball so far is a new player to the club, Sam Bradbrook who took 4 wickets for 34 runs in the same match.

A new look C Grade (one day team) has taken the field this year in the Limited Overs 2 division. The Round 1 match against Kilburn went down to the wire, with Kilburn getting the required runs with one wicket in hand. Best with the ball so far has been Dylan Darley (3 wickets for 8 runs).

It is great to have three teams on the field this season with so many new faces. We are always welcome to new players to join our cricketing ranks, with trainings on Tuesday and Thursdays starting at 5.30PM and games on Saturday afternoons. Any new player enquires can be directed to senior cricket coach Graham Crawford on 0413752994.

Executive Committee Acknowledgements

The Flinders Park Football Club Inc. Executive Committee acknowledged the great service of some of our volunteers at the most recent committee meeting:

  • Our fantastic bar staff - paid and unpaid - that assisted over a very busy Grand Final weekend. Many were not rostered on but were happy to lend a hand when they could have been enjoying themselves - Trevor Quaini, Suzi Cousins, Sue Turner, Carol Shard and Suzi Cousins to name a few.
  • Dennis Turner for his excellent bar management over the busy Grand Final period.
  • Rob Snowdon for his assistance in recruiting our new senior football coach.
  • Emily Snowdon and Jess Chandler for their excellent management and setup of the Presentation Ball.

Presentation Ball

The Flinders Park Presentation Ball was held on Friday 27 September at the picturesque Adelaide Oval with some 185 attendees making it our biggest event ever! Special thanks to our social committee - particularly Emily Snowdon and Jess Chandler - for ensuring the night was a great success.

At our Presentation Ball, and on behalf of the Flinders Park Football Club Inc, the Executive Committee presented Ryan March with a cheque for $1000 to be added to the March family's campaign for Fight MND that we supported earlier this year on 15 June. Added to the money raised on the day, the Flinders Park Football Club community have raised somewhere in the vicinity of $6000 for this very worthy cause, and the total raised by this campaign so far is over $27,000 - an outstanding effort!

The cause is one close to our hearts, and I think all in attendance on Ladies Day/SockIt2MND round will agree it was one of the biggest days we have ever had at the club. We could not be more proud of our people and the way they embraced the day. The March family were instrumental in the success of the event and plans are already underway to make next year's event bigger and better!

If you would like to support this very worthy cause please visit the link below - all donations are fully tax deductible.
