Flinders Park FC Red Alert - 13 February 2020
View this email in your browser
The club has been busy over the summer months, with cricket and netball returning after the Christmas break and our senior and junior footballers all well underway in their preparations for the 2020 season. Great to see plenty of numbers on the track including a couple of new recruits, and we’ll catch up with new senior coach Luke Ivens in time for the next newsletter for an update on how we are looking leading into round 1.

Our cricketers are enjoying some recent success including a first win for the LO1 team and an incredible day 1 win last Saturday in the A grade. The A grade cricketers are enjoying a comfortable lead at the top of the ladder and preparing for a huge run at an elusive A grade Premiership and promotion to the top tier of Adelaide turf cricket. If results continue to go our way we will be hosting a home Semi Final on 21/22 March, where the boys would love your support! Don’t forget to join us next Saturday 22 February for the hotly anticipated Village Green event that is one of our best days out of the year. Full details are below!

Keep your eye on the red, gold and blue via the Red Alert, our website, Facebook and Instagram.

A Grade (A2) Cricket Update

After the New Years break the A grade went down to Sacred Heart and set a massive total of 375 off the back off Matt Overalls 152 from 135 balls. Supported strongly by J Taylors 74 and S Cousins 61. L Bernhardt and G Crawford did the damage with the ball taking 3 each to keep SHOC to 250. Chasing some extra points, the M Overall and S Rose added 87 (31) and 45 (26) respectively to add 5/156 after 12 overs.

Round 8 against Old Ignatians started less brilliantly with us 8/166 with M Overall (61) the only major contributor. Then L Crichton stepped in to add a crucial 80 with W Stratfords 34 giving us a 106 9th wicket partnership and a total of 294. However, the following week was cancelled due to rain.

Despite this set back, we head into round 9 sitting 18 points clear on top of the ladder. With 3 rounds to go, maintaining this position will see us promoted to A1 and a real chance at a flag! Special mentions to Jarrad Taylor and Matt Overall, who are currently sitting first and second in the association batting aggregate.
- Tom Cousins

A solid outing for Sam Hynes last Saturday at Rostrevor! Flinders Park were looking in trouble after being dismissed for just 95 on day 1 of the match but that didn't last long with the new ball thrown to Hynes who took an outstanding 5/15 off his 9.4 overs! He was well supported by fellow opener Liam Bernhardt who took 3 wickets, and the boys completed an incredible win on day 1; bowling fourth placed Rostrevor out for 76.

B2 and LO2 Cricket Update

The B Grade are currently in finals contention in a tight race to make up the final two finals spots with 3 rounds to go. In recent game, in the final game prior to the Xmas break, a strong performance with the bat with a total of 338 got us over the line against Unley. Best performances were Anthony De Leonardis (78 runs off 44 balls) and Ryan Challis with 3 wickets. The first game back in the new year, the team weren’t able to close out the Adelaide University innings who ended with 292 runs, with Andrew Butler taking 5 wickets in a great performance with the ball. In reply with the bat, the team fell well short of the required total. The current round hasn’t started well, with the team putting out a below-par performance to lose the match on the first day. In the remaining rounds, strong team performances will be the key to give the team the chance to play finals.

The LO2 (One Day) team registered their inaugural win in the round just past which was great news for the team who had been edging closer with stronger performances in recent weeks. Highlights in recent games have been Rhys Gaylard’s consistent form with the bat (236 runs for season so far) and Dylan Tanner’s 55 runs and 4 wickets vs Sacred Heart OC.

The club still has our team in the Twenty20 competition, with the quarter final this coming Tuesday versus Unley at Flinders Park Oval. The team are looking to go a couple steps further in this years competition to take out the final.
